About Amarillo

HPRA shareholder radiologists live and work in Amarillo, a thriving city of 250,000 located in the Texas Panhandle. Amarillo lies halfway between Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Interstate 40. It is the largest city and a historic stop on Route 66. Amarillo is in Potter County and is rated one of the best places to live in Texas.

Amarillo offers residents a dense suburban feel, and most own their homes. The cost of living in Amarillo is 16% lower than the national average. The city’s history is deeply embedded in cowboy culture and mythology since many of the residents are descendants of 19th-century ranchers who settled there when the city boomed as a cattle market.

Amarillo is considered the regional economic center for the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles plus Eastern New Mexico. The city has many parks, bars, restaurants, and a thriving downtown area. Statistically, Amarillo enjoys a low crime rate, excellent schools, affordable housing, and exceptional weather. Texas does not have an individual state income tax.
